Midnight Dreaming

Cultural property, in trust

Every artwork, story, dance and teaching framework carried by Midnight Dreaming belongs to a living culture. This page sets out what that means for how you view, buy and licence our work.

What is protected

All images, artworks and designs on this site are © Renae Lamb. All curriculum content, syllabi, choreography and teaching frameworks are the intellectual property of Midnight Dreaming and Renae Lamb, protected under the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth) and Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) protocols.

ICIP covers more than copyright. The stories, symbols, language and knowledge in these works are held under Wiradjuri and Wongaibon cultural authority. They are not free-to-use assets, and they are never presented as such.

What buying an artwork does — and does not — licence

When you purchase an original artwork or print, you own that physical piece. Copyright and cultural rights in the design remain with Renae Lamb.

Ownership of an artwork does not licence reproduction of any kind — no printing, merchandising, digital reproduction, logo use or adaptation. The story that accompanies a work travels with it and must not be altered or separated from it.

Choreography, curriculum and story

Midnight Dreaming’s dance works, cultural programs, teaching resources and written stories are original works developed under cultural authority. They may not be performed, taught, recorded or adapted without written permission.

Licensing, done properly

Organisations can licence Midnight Dreaming artwork for uniforms, public art, publications and campaigns — the Newcastle Knights 2025 Indigenous Jersey is what that looks like done well.

A proper licence agrees the scope up front: exclusive or non-exclusive, the term, the territory, the media it may appear in, and attribution. Story and cultural context are part of the licence, not an optional extra.

About the images on this site

Artwork images are served at display resolution only, and each carries a visible copyright notice. Right-click saving is discouraged on artwork pages — we say plainly that this is a deterrent, not a lock. The respect is the protection.
